The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) in Somerset discovered Missy with a large untreated burn on her body, caused by hot water. The couple pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to the dog, claiming that Missy had pulled over a cup of hot water while Allen was making tea.
Neglect and Suffering
After the accident, Allen and Farthing failed to seek proper veterinary care for Missy. Instead, they relied on advice from a friend, resulting in the dog suffering from severe wounds on her back, shoulders, and neck. When a vet examined Missy nine days later, her injuries were already advanced, with discharge, fur loss, and scabbing. The scald pattern did not align with Allen’s explanation of the incident.
Legal Consequences
Jordan Allen, 24, received a 10-year ban from owning animals, along with a suspended 16-week custody sentence, community service, and financial penalties. Paisley Farthing, 32, was disqualified from owning dogs for five years, given a community order, and required to pay costs and victim surcharges.
