A Year of Freedom: Beagle Freedom Project Celebrates Milestone

When we think of Beagles, we often conjure up images of their floppy ears, wagging tails, and insatiable curiosity. These lovable dogs are known for their friendly nature and keen sense of smell. Unfortunately, their endearing qualities have made them a target for animal experimentation by pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies worldwide.

Enter the Beagle Freedom Project (BFP), a dedicated team on a mission to rescue these dogs from a life of suffering and provide them with a second chance. Just over a year ago, BFP achieved a significant milestone by closing down a large-scale laboratory that was conducting toxic flea and tick testing. This monumental effort freed over 250 animals from captivity and cruelty, marking a turning point in the fight against animal testing.

A Sanctuary of Hope: BFP Freedom Fields

In February of 2024, BFP took a bold step forward by establishing Freedom Fields, a 30-acre sanctuary and rehabilitation center located in Nowata, Oklahoma. This sanctuary, built on the grounds of a former laboratory, serves as a safe haven where rescued animals can heal, learn to trust humans again, and ultimately find loving forever homes.

As we celebrate the one-year anniversary of Freedom Fields, Shannon Keith, President, and Founder of Beagle Freedom Project, reflects on the journey that led to this momentous occasion. “Freedom Fields was founded on the promise of bringing animal testing survivors out of the shadows,” Keith shares. “This anniversary is a tribute to all those who contributed to this victory—our supporters, volunteers, and staff—and a call to action for the work that lies ahead.”

A New Chapter: The “Bring Them Home” Campaign

To commemorate this milestone, BFP is launching the “Bring Them Home” campaign, dedicated to supporting the recent rescues from animal testing and the meat trade. At the heart of this campaign are 55 beagles who were saved from the horrors of laboratory testing in China, only to face the threat of being sold for meat. Thanks to the swift action of BFP’s team, these dogs were intercepted and brought to Freedom Fields, where they now have the chance to experience love, safety, and freedom for the first time.

Despite their traumatic past, these resilient beagles continue to wag their tails and show hope in the face of adversity. Their journey serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of compassion, advocacy, and the tireless efforts of organizations like the Beagle Freedom Project.
