A Personal Dog Adventure
As a proud owner of a rescue pup named Koa, I am always on the lookout for new adventures for us to embark on together. Our recent discovery of Fiesta Island in San Diego has been a game-changer for us. The island, a local favorite, boasts a dog-friendly beach and trails that have quickly become one of our go-to spots.

Exploring Fiesta Island
To reach Fiesta Island, just a short seven-mile drive from downtown San Diego, offers easy and free parking. Upon arrival, visitors can choose to walk across the bridge to explore the beaches surrounding the island or park on the island itself for a more leisurely visit.
The island features a loop that spans just under 6 miles, including a trek to the top of the central hill, offering ample space for exploration. It is important to note that while there are limited restroom facilities on the island, visitors should come prepared with essentials like water and waste bags for their pets.
A Day on Fiesta Island
During our visit to Fiesta Island, Koa and I ventured up the hill to enjoy the serene views from the island’s highest point. We then made our way down to the shore, where Koa had a blast splashing in the water, showcasing his swimming skills while maintaining a safe water level.
The island’s vibrant atmosphere welcomed cyclists, kayakers, runners, walkers, and other pets, creating a lively environment for all. Regular breaks for fetch games and interactions with other dogs and horses added to the overall charm of the experience.
Next Stop: Old Town San Diego
After a fulfilling day exploring the dog-friendly trails and beaches of Fiesta Island, we made our way to Old Town San Diego, a perfect way to conclude our adventure. The historic park, dog-friendly but with restrictions on building access, offers a glimpse into San Diego’s rich history through various exhibitions and demonstrations.
Old Town San Diego State Historic Park features original adobe buildings turned museums, retail shops, and quaint restaurants, providing visitors with an immersive experience of the city’s transformation over the years. The park’s vibrant atmosphere, complete with live music and friendly burros, adds to its appeal as a must-visit destination.
