Hey, I’m Dr. Karyn! So, I have this quirky little gang of dogs – Poppy, Bailey, Kodah, Ned, and Fred. They keep my life interesting, to say the least.
Not every dog is a fan of toys, and every dog has their own unique preferences when it comes to playthings. The pet supply industry definitely knows this fact all too well. In my household, the Labradors go crazy for tennis balls, Kodah is all about anything that shoots water, Fred can’t get enough of donuts, and then there’s Ned. Ned is a bit of an oddball when it comes to toys. He’s not really into your typical dog toys, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t like to play. He just has a thing for the stuff that everyone else seems to ignore.
Living with five cats means hairballs are a part of daily life. If I don’t get to them first, you can bet that Ned will. For some mysterious reason, Ned enjoys pouncing on, carrying, and chewing on these little fuzzy tumbleweeds. And if I’m not quick enough, he might even try to snack on them. Lovely.
Playing with toy parts seems to be Ned’s thing. Even though he’s not a big fan of toys in general, he has this weird fixation on any pieces that fall off – or get chewed off – other toys. Legs, ears, antlers, tails – you name it, Ned has probably played with it. It’s like a little game of his own, and he seems to have a blast with it.
Recycled Fashion
The other day, I was going through my closet and found the detachable faux fur trim from an old jacket. I had a hunch that Ned might find it interesting, and I was right. That little piece of fur has become Ned’s absolute favorite thing to play with. It’s almost like a cat toy for him, and he goes wild when I dangle it in front of him. And the best part? He seems to enjoy playing with it by himself even more than when I try to join in.
Nothing beats toy scraps
Given that even the toughest dog toys eventually give in to Kodah and Fred’s chewing, Ned always has a fresh supply of toy parts coming his way. Unfortunately, along with the toy bits, there’s also a constant stream of hairballs that I have to deal with. I don’t really get why Ned is so fascinated with these random pieces, but hey, if it makes him happy, then I’m happy too.
So, there you have it – life with Ned and his quirky toy preferences. It may seem a bit strange, but hey, who am I to judge? As long as he’s having fun, that’s all that matters. And let me tell you, watching him prance around with his favorite playthings is definitely a sight to behold.
