Rescued: Mischievous Dogs Saved After Falling Through Ice
Two mischievous dogs found themselves in a precarious situation at Utah Park in Aurora, Colorado, but thanks to the swift response of the Aurora Fire Rescue, their story has a happy ending.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday, December 11, when a concerned bystander dialed 911 to report two small dogs trapped in the icy waters. The dogs had fallen through the ice, which was situated approximately 10-15 feet away from the shore, according to KDVR.
Aurora Fire Rescue, well-prepared and trained in ice rescues for both humans and animals, wasted no time in responding to the call for help. AFR’s Engine 4 was the first unit on the scene, supported by the Technical Rescue Team and multiple other responders from the department, as detailed in an Instagram post by Aurora Fire Rescue.
Fortunately, the dogs demonstrated remarkable resilience by managing to extricate themselves from the frigid waters before the rescuers could reach them. Regrettably, one of the dogs, displaying a true sense of independence, fled the scene and has yet to be located by the crews. On the other hand, the second dog was promptly attended to by the rescue teams, who successfully restored its core body temperature.
Following the crucial care provided by the responders, the second dog was handed over to Animal Control, tasked with reuniting the furry companion with its rightful owner. The city of Aurora, home to several bodies of water, issued a cautionary reminder through Aurora Fire Rescue about the potential hazards of playing in or around icy water during the colder months.
### Ice Safety Tips: Protecting Our Furry Friends
As we navigate the winter season, Aurora Fire Rescue emphasizes the importance of exercising caution near water and ice-covered surfaces. In light of this heartwarming rescue mission, the department shared valuable Ice Safety Tips to safeguard pets from similar mishaps.
Among the key safety recommendations for pet owners is the advice to always keep pets on a leash when near frozen lakes or ponds. In the event that a pet ventures onto thin ice and falls through, it is crucial not to attempt a rescue independently. Instead, prompt action should be taken by calling for professional assistance to ensure a safe and successful retrieval.
By following these simple yet life-saving guidelines, pet owners can protect their beloved animals from the dangers posed by icy conditions and create a secure environment for all creatures, great and small.
